Surviving Architecture Without Land
By:Jonathan Smith
To
many people, global warming is merely a liberalistic exaggeration of an
environmental oversight. This is far from the truth. Although the damage of
global warming is uncertain, noticeable changes in sea level are already
apparent. If sea levels were to rise enough to make land a far more scarce
commodity than it currently is, then people will be forced to accommodate to
these conditions.
This
research and design study will facilitate a feasible response to off-shore
living for long term circumstances. The attempt is to accommodate an average
sized city or community. This community will be on a vessel that is completely
self-sustaining and does not need to stop ashore except for the luxury of
leaving the sea. The design will show how architecture can be used to solve a
very scientific problem and make living as a community off-shore a feasible
concept.
